I get most of my technology upgrades from my kids. They dragged me into Uber. And now? I can’t live without it. Door Dash and Grubhub have put on a few pounds on me. But a more recent app really saved the day.
My daughter isn’t big on having a lot of computer equipment taking up space in her small city condo. So a compact printer and no scanner is all there is. I called her to email a document to me, but I knew without a scanner it would be hopeless. Instead? She replied, “No problem Dad. I will use CamScanner and you’ll have it in 5 minutes.” Hmmm. So I download the app and tried it out. You take a picture of the document and it converts the picture into a professional pdf. I love it!
Loan closings, no matter how well planned, seem to go right down to the wire … literally. On the day of closing, you always face the wire “cutoff,” which is usually 2 pm or 3 pm Eastern time. You have to get the settlement statement signed and the loan proceeds out the door by the wire cutoff. We had a deal that was supposed to close in the morning, before the sponsor had to leave the country at the 2 pm cutoff. No problem, right? Well some last-minute delays, time passes, 10 am, 11am, noon, at which time the sponsor heads to the airport. At 1:30 as the plane starts to load, the settlement statement is done, the sponsor finds a printer in the airport hotel, but … no scanner. And the legal team would not accept a picture of the signed settlement statement; it had to be a pdf.
Then it came to me – Camscanner! I told the sponsor to download the app and take a picture of the signed settlement statement, convert it to a pdf and email it in. We got it at 1:50 pm and closed just before the wire cutoff!
